Jen-Shuo Liu is a researcher and engineer at MediaTek, working at the intersection of extended reality (XR), human-computer interaction, visual computing, and video and image processing. Previously, he was with Samsung Research America, where he worked on video processing and visual technologies. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University, where his research focused on augmented and virtual reality interfaces, human attention and perception, and immersive systems for task guidance and teleoperation.
His research interests span augmented and virtual reality, human-computer interaction, visual perception, video and image processing, computational photography, and human-centered immersive systems. His work has explored topics including perceptual and attention-aware XR interfaces, immersive task guidance, remote collaboration and teleoperation, and visual computing systems.
Jen-Shuo is an active contributor to the IEEE VR and ISMAR communities. He currently serves as Standardization Chair for IEEE VR 2026 and ISMAR 2026 and as an Ombudsperson for IEEE VR 2027. His recent community roles include organizing and moderating the IEEE VR 2026 panel “Standardization in XR/VR: Challenges and Priorities Beyond Terminology,” chairing Pitch Your Lab at ISMAR 2025 and 2026, and serving as Publicity and Communications Chair for ISMAR 2024 and 2025. He has also served as a doctoral consortium mentor and session chair for IEEE VR and ISMAR, as well as a committee member for the CHI Late-Breaking Work track.
Beyond his research and professional work, Jen-Shuo is particularly interested in connecting academia, industry, and standardization efforts to advance practical, interoperable, and human-centered XR technologies.
